You Too Can Regain Your Self-Confidence
Self-confidence is about having a realistic assessment of yourself, i.e. not too high and not too low. In the long run, self-confidence helps you set healthy boundaries, try new things, deal with conflict and overcome adversity.
Some issues with self-confidence may result from a lack of certainty about one’s own aptitude. Accepting valid external feedback is a useful measure of one’s abilities, e.g. receiving a certificate for passing a course, but those with low self-confidence may believe that successful tasks were the result of chance rather than their abilities.
Growth Mindset
A growth mindset can help you build on self-confidence. Understanding that failure or making mistakes is not due to a personal flaw nor because you’re not good enough.
Failure is an indication that you may lack the right steps to complete the task at hand and you just need to either research the next steps or learn them from someone who already has the skill you want to acquire. We were all born without the ability to eat or talk or walk and yet have learned how to do these things.
Of course, it is important to understand our limitations. We can’t all be olympic athletes but we can work on becoming more skilled in the activity of our choice.
Having a growth mindset is about understanding that we are in a constant state of growth and learning. Whatever we don’t have knowledge of is an opportunity to acquire new knowledge.
Imagine being able to cultivate a growth mindset with your eyes closed, learning to tune out the critical mind and focus on the skills you have to take action.
