Trance is a natural human state that everyone experiences such as when daydreaming, being so absorbed in a movie that it becomes real for the individual or getting lost in a book for hours without realising the passage of time.
In a clinical setting, the desired effect of a trance is for the individual to see events differently or more positively.
Ensuring that the client’s recall is useful for them requires the hypnotherapist to tailor a session specifically to the client’s needs. Scripts are helpful; however, they are generic in content. A well trained hypnotherapist will develop a script tailored to the individual’s needs.
If the client can’t relate to what the therapist is saying, it will be disregarded and will be of little value to the individual.
