How do phobias work?

 

Phobias include a heightened stress response to a specific fear and a sense of almost constant hyper-vigilance in preparation for an encounter with the fear.

 

In order to avoid the specific fear, many people find themselves making lifestyle adjustments to avoid the risk of confronting the fear. These adjustments can detrimentally affect when they reduce the activities someone participates in, eg. if a fear of being outside results in not leaving the house or a fear of flying means someone doesn’t ever travel by plane.

 

 

Hypnotherapy and phobias

 

You can learn strategies to turn down the volume on your fear response through hypnotherapy. Fear no longer has to dictate how you live your life. You can learn how to regain control over your life.

 

Learning to differentiate between realistic risks vs fear-based risks, changing to a more external focus and learning to compartmentalise are all skills that can be acquired through hypnotherapy.

 

Hypnotherapy can provide useful ways to reduce the fear response so you can take charge of your life again.
